www.Gliffy.com Gliffy is an online tool that makes it easy to create, share, and collaborate using diagrams and graphics. Users of Gliffy can exchange information with more clarity, boost new ideas, improve decisions, and work more effectively. Gliffy is similar to the software Inspiration.
History
Gliffy was founded by Chris Kohlhardt and Clint Dickson in San Francisco. This online tool is the first of it’s kind to be on the World Wide Web. The founders are quoted as saying, “we’ve committed ourselves to platform independent internet applications with rich user interfaces that make collaboration an easy and obvious part of your day.”
The name “gliffy” comes from the word glyph, a character or symbol that imparts information. Gliffy is an online line drawing/sketching service that helps users exchange information using a combination of shapes, texts, and lines.
Gliffy has customers in more than 40 countries. Gliffy is used for personal use, small business, education, and some of the world’s leading corporations, who embrace the benefits of communicating visually. By using Gliffy, they are creating, sharing, and joining forces across time and distance, improving coherence, efficiency, and decision making. Gliffy is listed as one of the top best free softwares by PC Magazine.
Gliffy diagram software is designed to make it easy and intuitive for you to create professional quality flowcharts, floor plans, technical drawings and more. While it’s easy to figure out Gliffy on your own, this guide addresses the basics of using Gliffy and helps you find and use some of our more advanced features (taken directly from The Gliffy user manual at http://www.gliffy.com/blog/user-manual/).
Gliffy creates diagrams (venn diagrams), flowcharts, floor plans, network layouts, organizational charts, SWOT analysis, wireframes, site maps, and technical drawings. These are professional quality and are free (with minimum use).
Pricing
Gliffy users can sign up to use the online program for free. This can only be used for one user and up to five diagrams, with 2Mb storage. All diagrams are public under the free plan.
For up to 200 diagrams, 200 Mb story, public and private diagrams, and unlimited collaborators, Gliffy’s price starts at $4.95 per month for each user. The $9.95 per month package is better for large organizations. The user has unlimited diagrams, unlimited storage, public and private diagrams, and unlimited collaborators. Users can save their work to gliffy's server or download it to their computer.
Instructional Uses
There are many ways Gliffy can be used in the classroom. Students can create diagrams or flow charts to help teach and reinforce writing and critical thinking skills. Students are more engaged in collaborative learning. Learning time is extended and student-teacher interaction is better facilitated. Gliffy engages student learning in all subjects. It allows for more visual learning, which we all know makes learning easier and better.

"Most educators have used a diagramming program such as Inspiration in the school setting to assign student work such as outlining, diagramming, and creating webs of ideas and concepts. Gliffy is an application that lets you share these student-generated works for free over the web. Gliffy online information states the following: 'Since Gliffy Online runs in your web browser, there is no need to download any additional software to use it. By leveraging new web technologies, Gliffy Online brings you a familiar desktop application feel in a web browser.'
An additional feature that Gliffy adds is a tie-in to Yahoo images. The student can do a quick image search and add the picture into his/her document. The student can use actual images that apply to the topic that he or she is diagramming, outlining, or webbing to enhance the presentation and clarify the text. Clearly, Gliffy can add a fun, educational, and creative enrichment to the student learning experience." As long as the computer being used as Internet connection, Gliffy can be used.
Wow! Gliffy's customer service is EXCELLENT! Simply submit your request through Gliffy's support desk and click 'submit a request.' I asked a question and received and response via email within 24 hours. Gliffy personalizes the support experience by assigning a staff member to your case and showing you a picture of that staff person. The name of the person who helped me with my question was Debi K and I even could see a picture of Debi K. to make the experience even more personal. Kudos to Gliffy for their great customer service!
